End-of-Year video memory books

Every year, I would make a paper memory book with my students. I would sit there while they wrote their answers and drew their pictures on the many pages. I always had kids who would sigh at every page and also those who couldn’t wait to get to the next page.

I began to think of what I could do to make our memory books more authentic, more meaningful and more entertaining to create.

Then I thought, let’s use our HUE Animation camera! My class loved using it for the Rainforest projects.

I made the title frame, as well as all the section header frames in PowerPoint, and then created a SMART Notebook presentation of them. I used the SMART Notebook presentation to display what they’d be working on in class.

Here is the SMART Notebook, PowerPoint presentations of the lesson. the title frame and the section headers. They are all editable so you can change them to fit with your classes’  themes.

My students all received white paper to draw their answers on for each section. They then colored in the pictures and created frame shots and voice recordings one section at a time. They loved being able to add voice and emotion to their books instead of just drawings and writing!

I created a checklist for them to review when they came up to the camera to create their movies.  The checklist is also found in the lesson presentations, and was printed out, laminated and posted next to the computer so the students could refer to it at anytime if needed. Click on the picture below to get your copy of the checklist.

After completing and exporting our movie, we had three choices to share it with: Creatubbles, YouTube and QuickTime.

Creatubbles is an awesome safe global community that has partnered with HUE Animation. Creatubbles allows us to upload our HUE Animation movies and other creations to a site that is safe for our kids to use. Once uploaded to Creatubbles, students can share a link to their creations with their friends and family to enjoy!!

Here is our end of the year memory book. I hope you enjoy it as much as my kids do!

What to share your stop motion animation footage? We’d love to see it. Be sure to upload your creations to www.creatubbles.com.
